SYMPTOM |
While attempting
to connect, I receive the following error message:
Error 678: There
is no answer
|
CAUSE |
- Dialing Incorrect
or Invalid access number
- Incorrect Dialer
Settings
- Faulty Connection
- Site Issues
|
RESOLUTION |
- Try dialing a few
more times and watch and listen to determine if
the modems connect at all. It is normal for modem
connections to fail occasionally.
If you frequently fail to
connect, consider one or more of the following actions:
1. Make sure that you're
dialing the correct phone number and area code
2. The number you have
may be out of date. Try calling the number with
a regular telephone to make sure that a modem answers
3. Make sure that your
local area code is set correctly 4. If you need to dial an access
code or a long-distance code, make sure it's set
correctly For example, dialing out from some
locations requires a prefix, such as 9
5. Check your phone
line. Try disconnecting any other phones or answering
machines from the line. Try a different phone cord
between your modem and the phone socket
6. Prodigy Internet
may be having temporary problems.
Try dialing again later
if you repeatedly run into these conditions:
- An "all circuits
busy" message from the phone company
- A busy signal
- The phone rings
but is never answered
- The phone is answered,
but all you hear is silence or clicks instead of
modem tones
