The
Internet Connection Take
in mind that most Internet software are only a shell to the Internet
connection, because they depend completely on what is already in
your operating system “Windows” and how it is setup. All internet
companies depend on your computer settings except AOL that
install and use its own Dial-Up Adapter and TCP/IP. When trouble
shooting your internet connection there are seven areas you need
to be concern: Site or
server Problems Phone line Modem Network components
and settings Username and password Browser program and settings

#629, #631, #650, #676 and #678, try again, if you get the same

Network components
and settings Network
settings are found inside Control Panel, there you will be able
to see the components already install. You need only two of them
in order to connect to the internet. Dial Up Adapter
TCP/IP Dial Up Adapter Then you will need Client for Microsoft
Network or Family Logon in order to save your password. Others
will be for different applications or devices. But if you do not
have a network card, I advice you to remove any other extra components
like IPX/SPX-compatible protocol, NetBEUI, Microsoft Virtual
private networking adapter. Also make sure you remove additional
adapters like “TCP/IP Dial up adapter #2 and Dial Up Adapter #2.
Before removing any extra network components check if you have the
original Windows 95 or 98 CD, If not, check if you have the
Cab files; use "find files" on Start and type *. cab to
do a search on your "C" drive. This is only to be on the
save side, in case you are ask for the CD or for any updating.
After removing the extra components click OK and let the computer
update the registry if it ask you to Shut down or restart.
Also in this section you will be able to configure the properties
for each components, by doing a click On the component in order
to select it, then another click on “properties”. Properties for
each computer may differ, but you can compare yours with these typical
settings.
For TCP/IP dial
up adapter, properties:
On IP address: put a check mark on “Obtain automatically” On
Wins configuration: select “Use DHCP” On DNS configuration:
select “Disable DNS” On Bindings: put a check mark on “Microsoft
family logon”
For Dial Up Adapter,

Type: select “Enhanced mode 32…” On Binding: put a check mark
on “TCP/IP” On Advance select: “yes”, for “enable point to point…”,
Select “auto”
for “IP packet size” Select

Username and password The best way to fix an error related
to username and password, is to delete completely the user name
and password from your dialer or connectoid then retype them. Make
sure you are not using Caps Lock on your keyboard. Put your
username on lowercase. Password is case sensitive so be careful
to put caps and lowercase respectively. If not sure of your password
please call your ISP Tech support.
